The Raste Mahirap was a beautiful artefact combining timber, glass and mirror work to create a truly royal art piece. This consisted of a timber frame with glass paintings depicting scenes from Hindu Mythological tales. These miniature style paintings were backpainted on glass and then sealed in with a solution which brought amirror-sheen to the paintings. This Mahirap was discovered hidden behind some panelling on the client’s wall and was missing several panels. Some of the panels were even broken and the timber paintwork was in poor condition. The missing and broken panels have been restored by using the older pieces as evidence and painstakingly double tracing before trying to replicate the fine skill of these artists.
